We understand that making senior care decisions can be challenging and raise a lot of questions more so, when considering moving to our personal care home. We are here to provide answers to any questions you may have and below is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. What is a personal care home? 

A Personal Care Home is a housing facility for seniors who want or need to be in a group living situation and who may need assistance with personal care and daily living activities. Typically, a Personal Care Home is selected when 24-hour, non-medical supervision is needed or desired. Personal Care Homes are regulated by government agencies to be licensed. They are usually converted single-family home with up to 6 residents or may be a large building similar to an apartment building with over 100 residents.

Who is eligible to live in a personal care home?

Anyone who needs assistance to live independently can benefit from our personal care homes, which offer seniors the safety and security of around-the-clock professional care, in the comfort of a small, family-style residence.

When do I know when it's time to consider a personal care home?

Change in their personal hygiene, such as a failure to bathe on a daily basis, wearing the same clothes all the time, or sleeping in their clothes. Passive Responses such as, Why should I bathe/change my clothes? I don’t go anywhere; Tiredness and constant complaints could be a possible sign of depression or loneliness. Forgetfulness such as leaving food cooking on the stove, leaving the faucet on, not taking medications as prescribed, the phone left off the hook or bills left unpaid.

Is Southern Comfort Senior Living a licensed personal care home?

Yes. We are licensed by the Georgia Department of Community Health, license number PCH010005.

Are your caregivers insured and bonded?

Yes. All our caregivers and nurses are bonded and insured. All staff are screened before employment.

Is Personal Care Homes covered by Medicare?

Medicare does not cover personal care homes specifically, but will continue to pay the direct medical coverage of residents, such as doctor’s visits, qualifying hospital stays and therapies.

How do I pay for personal care home?

Our current payment options include Private Pay or and Long-Term Care Insurance.

How is the cost of care determined?

Southern Comfort does charge an all inclusive fee which includes room, board and cost of care. The cost is based on the level of service required by each resident. Before a resident moves into the residence, we perform a needs assessment to determine level of care and which point, the resident and their family will be provided with the cost.

What makes Southern Comfort Senior Living different from other senior care providers?

Southern Comfort is more than a personal care home. We are home. At Southern Comfort we believe that there is no one size fits all to providing care. As such, we personalize care for each resident to ensure all resident needs are met. We pride ourselves in providing care with love and compassion and with high standards. 

Our management has over 10 years combined experience in senior care and are determined to ensure that all our staff receive proper training to provide quality care and that all our residents receive the best service during their stay with us.

How are your staff screened?

All our employees must pass a thorough background check, drug test, and in-depth interview process before becoming a part of our team.

Are residents allowed to decorate their room?

The rooms already come furnished and decorated however, we do allow residents to bring their own furniture and decorate their rooms as they please. Our goal at Southern Comfort is to help the resident maintain a sense of normalcy as much as possible.
